Rocket Camp 2008 at Lucerne Valley

On Friday evening, November 7, 2008, 16 scouts and 7 adults went to Rocket Camp at Lucerne Valley. The stars were beautiful as usual and the golden retriever from last year’s event came back to greet us. On Saturday, the troop feasted on Dutch oven cooked breakfasts and dinners. This year’s Rocket Camp had many more people. Everyone enjoyed launching their rockets. The following early morning hours, however, had a surprise for us. Around 4am, we were awakened by 40+ mph winds and rain. A rain fly was blown off one of the tents, and a couple of scouts got soaked. Luckily, the other scouts’ tents were fine and they stayed put until daybreak. It was quite an experience. On a happier note, our scout Kevin Kou won the “Fat Man”, a big rocket from a raffle prize for helping the volunteers of Rocket Camp to clean up that morning. We’re looking forward to having a  troop project  launching it at next year’s Rocket Camp. Finally, a special thanks to Ann Heil and Jeff Krogen without whom this event would not be possible!!
