Trail Magic on Saturday and Sunday, 05/16/09 to 05/17/09

Post 4 - Saturday, May 16, and Sunday, May 17 - 3 Points - milepost 403.2

On Saturday and Sunday, May 16 and 17, my wife Patty, my sister Connie, and I travelled to 3 Points to provide "magic" for the hikers passing through. We set up at about 7:15 AM on Saturday morning and many hikers passed through all day long.

There were over 30 hikers passing through on Saturday, and over 15 on Sunday. It was great to see Alien March, Joker, and Jellybean who I hiked with at times last year. It was also good to see and meet many ot the "Class of 2009" and listen to "hiker talk".

I forgot the names of many (perhaps most) of the hikers. It usually takes me about 3 introductions/meetings before I remember a person's name. Sorry about that!

My sister Connie and my wife Patty did most of the work, and Shorty helped out on Sunday morning. On Saturday, Meadow Ed, Incredible Bulk, and Paul stooped by after they added water and supplies to the cooler near the road. Also Treebear and Makela (?) stopped by on Saturday afternoon and spent the evening. Connie and Patty when home on Saturday evening. Connie came back up on Sunday morning with more supplies.

There were fewer hikers on Sunday, but we were still kept busy. It was great to meet them and to hear their stories. As usual, Connie did most of the work - thanks Connie!

On Wednesday, May 20, I stopped I dropped by 3 Points on my way to Agua Dulce and left some beer and sodas at the cooler. While there I met Dot who was also resupplying the cache. He did his thru-hike in 2005 and had driven up from Long Beach. Also at the cache were Trashman, One Strap, and Stumbling Norwegian.

I dropped the leftover food from the weekend (chili-dog makings) at Hiker Heaven in Agua Dulce, and I saw most of the hikers that had passed through 3 Points last weekend. Most of the hikers were there lounging around as usual. What a great stopover for thru-hikers - there had to be at least 50 hikers staying there.

Take care and see you down the trail...
